The halal industry has experienced significant development and progress, including in the pharmaceutical industry that produces medicines. Halal certification for pharmaceutical products is expected to continue to grow due to the increasing awareness of halal lifestyle among Muslims. However, halal certification for pharmaceutical products faces challenges, and currently, the number of halal-certified pharmaceutical products remains relatively low. The low number of halal pharmaceutical products may be attributed to the fact that pharmaceutical products were not initially designed as halal products.
Although the timeline for the implementation of halal certification requirements for the pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia is still quite long, it would be beneficial if businesses in the pharmaceutical industry began preparing for the mandatory halal certification. This is considering the preparation of raw materials, facilities, and resources which tend to be complex and require lengthy preparations.
This book provides explanations about halal certification for pharmaceutical products in Indonesia, covering regulations, fatwas, and procedures for halal certification of medicines, as well as requirements for materials, products, and the production process of medicines, and the implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) in the pharmaceutical industry.
The aim of this book is to provide explanations about halal certification for pharmaceutical products in Indonesia, with the hope of facilitating businesses in the process of halal certification for pharmaceutical products. This book can also be beneficial for parties involved in the halal certification process for medicines and serve as a reference on the global stage.
This book is written based on literature studies and the authors’ experiences of over 10 years as practitioners in the halal field. We hope this book can provide clear and easily understandable information for readers, including entrepreneurs, government officials, academics, and members of society who are increasingly concerned about halal matters.
